The council consists of Syrian opposition figures exiled from their homeland, including Ba'athists (who disapprove of the current Ba'ath of Syria), communists, liberals, Arab nationalists, and Kurdish nationalsts who seek independence from the Syrian state. The council has openly declared its rejection of Islamist figures or any members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
